Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus! — VBS 2018

August 02, 2018

We ventured onto an uncharted island, where we all were rescued by Jesus for VBS 2018! We learned that Jesus carries us through every storm in life.

We learned to hold onto God's promises and how those promises help us feel loved when we are lonely, comforted when we worry, strong when we struggle, learn right when we do wrong, and feel powerful when we feel powerless!

Maundy Thursday Seder Dinner

March 29, 2018

We had a wonderful evening and learned a lot at our Maundy Thursday Seder meal.

As Easter approaches, so does the Passover, celebrating the end of the Israelites’ bondage in Egypt. The 7 day holiday is marked by a special meal, called the Seder. As Jesus observed the Passover Seder, He introduced us to Communion, on, what we call Maundy Thursday. Because of the correlation of the two holidays, our Maundy Thursday service was unique this year. Instead of a sanctuary service, we celebrated a Passover Seder, held at Burton, on March 29th, at 6:30 pm. The service lasted about 2 hours, and included dinner.

February 23, 2018

It was a wonderful night of music — classical, jazz, rock, sacred, opera, country, and musical theater. Thank you to all that participated and joined us!

“Hero Central” Vacation Bible School a Super Success

July 31, 2017

At VBS Hero Central, the 38 children and 13 volunteers enjoyed interactive, energizing, Bible-based good times as they discovered their strength in God. The Young Heroes explored how to serve God and God's mission in their lives with wisdom, heart, power, and courage.

We cannot thank enough all the parents who brought their children and then picked them up! Our directors and Super Heroes, Dan and Jaime Berman, did an amazing job of organizing this wonderful program. Our supporting super heroes made our week even more special: Laura, Ellen, Gabby, and Sam Adams for the wonderful Hero Central decorating, Linda and Andy Baker for the energizing snacks and help in all areas, Judy Lasco for being the best story teller, Jan Flaws and Joyce Gagnon for sharing their special power in crafts and shields, Leita and Elyse Cirjak and Linda Stone for showing super powers through science, and finally Super Pastor Bob, who showed us the real super power of managing 38 children in recreational activities.

A Hero Central Reunion is being planned so please stay tuned to our website and Facebook. We are very hopeful that many of our VBS participants will join us for “Deep Blue Kids’ Adventure” Sunday School beginning September 10 following Pastor Bob’s Children’s Sermon.

Burton Congregational Church Day at Classic Park

June 04, 2017

We had a fun day at Classic Park for the Captains vs. Cubs on Sunday on June 4, 2017. Our group had reserved indoor and outdoor seating in the loft and party deck on the Captains Suite Level. We enjoyed a 90 minute all-you-can-eat buffet with all of the favorite foods from the ballpark.

In addition to the game, some of our members took part in catch on the field and throwing out a pitch. We even made it on the big screen at the park! We got to meet Captain and Skipper, the mascots. It was a fun day for all who attended.

November 16, 2016

Spirit Bound is a quartet of friends who share their faith and a love of music. Their specialty is blending their voices in A Cappella harmonies, but with the talented accompanist Joy Leirer as the alto member of the group they have also incorporated her wonderful keyboard skills in the repertoire. Rounding out the harmonious sound is Aubrey Woods, tenor, Laura Christian, soprano, and Gary Hunter, baritone.
